Cabinet approves new airport at Kota-Boondi
New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved two major infrastructure projects, which will play an important role in the development of Rajasthan and Odisha. A total of Rs 9,814 crore will be spent on these projects. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav informed about these important decisions after the cabinet meeting.
The biggest announcement is the construction of a new airport in Kota-Bundi area of Rajasthan. The estimated cost of this greenfield airport will be Rs 1,507 crore and it will be funded by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) from its internal resources. The Rajasthan government will provide 1,089 acres of land for this project free of cost. The new airport will be able to handle 20 lakh passengers per year.
Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that this airport will improve regional connectivity and strengthen the local economy. He also informed that in the last 11 years, the number of airports in the country has more than doubled to 162, while the number of air passengers has increased from 16.8 crore to 41.2 crore.
At the same time, an important project has also been approved for the capital region in Odisha. A 110 km long six-lane access-controlled ring road will be constructed between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, costing around Rs 8,308 crore. This is a project based on Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM). This ring road will help in reducing heavy commercial traffic of urban areas like Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Khordha, which will significantly reduce traffic jams and congestion.
The Union Minister said that this project will increase the efficiency of freight transportation, reduce logistics costs and promote economic and social development of Odisha. This new road will be connected to three major national highways (NH-55, NH-57, NH-655) and a state highway (SH-65), ensuring better connectivity in the region.
With these projects, the government has made clear its goal of advancing the infrastructure development of the country, which will not only increase the convenience of the local people but will also accelerate economic activities. The approval of the Union Cabinet will expand modern and efficient transport network in both the states of Rajasthan and Odisha.
