New Delhi: Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has once again brought attention to the sexual harassment allegations against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, revealing in a recent video that she is one of the six complainants in the case.

In a video message lasting over four minutes, Vinesh explained her decision to speak publicly despite the case still being under judicial consideration. She acknowledged that victims’ identities are typically protected under Supreme Court guidelines but said she felt compelled to come forward due to the current circumstances. She confirmed that she is among the wrestlers who formally filed complaints and noted that their testimonies are still ongoing in court.

Reflecting on her experience, Vinesh highlighted the emotional and professional challenges faced by athletes dealing with such situations. She emphasized how difficult it is for women to continue competing while navigating trauma and institutional pressures.

The wrestler also raised concerns about the upcoming selection trials scheduled in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh. According to her, the event is set to be at a private college owned by Brij Bhushan, which she believes could compromise fairness. She expressed doubts about whether athletes would receive impartial treatment, suggesting that officiating and scoring could be influenced.

Vinesh further alleged that despite his removal from the federation, Brij Bhushan continues to wield influence within wrestling administration. She criticized what she described as inaction from authorities, including the sports ministry, claiming they have failed to address the situation effectively.

The controversy dates back to 2023, when several top Indian wrestlers, including Olympic medallists Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, staged protests in New Delhi demanding action against Brij Bhushan. The protests drew widespread attention, especially after clashes with police were captured on camera.

While Brij Bhushan has been cleared in a separate case involving a minor after the complaint was withdrawn, he still faces serious charges, including sexual harassment and stalking, in the case involving Vinesh and other wrestlers. He has consistently denied all allegations.

The case remains pending in court.
