Weather: Monsoon fury smashes Himachal; Claims over 450 lives, about 340 roads still blocked

Shimla: The monsoon has devastated almost all the parts of the state paralysing routine life. So far 451 people have lost theri lives with 262 attributed to rain-related disasters such as landslides, flash floods, cloudbursts, drowning, electrocution and lightning. Rest 189 people have died in road accidents, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

Beside the loss human life, monsoon fury has also taken a toll on livestock. As many as 2,510 animals have died and 26,955 poultry birds lost their lives.

Landslides Hits Shimla

There have been incidents of landslides and falling of trees at many places in Shimla. The Khalini-Jhanjhiri road has been broken, while debris has fallen on many other roads, due to which traffic is disrupted. Water supply in the city has also been affected. Two cars were also buried due to the landslide and many trees have become unstable, which can fall anytime.

According to the Meteorological Center Shimla, the rain will continue till September 7. Red alert for heavy rain has been issued in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, Mandi and Sirmaur. Schools have also been closed in these areas.

Landslide In Chamba

A massive landslide occurred in Sahli Panchayat of Bharmour in Chamba district this morning, damaging a house. The security wall in front of a multi-storey building in Panjri area near ISBT in Shimla collapsed, posing a threat to the building.

IMD Issued Red Alert

The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rain in Chamba and Kangra districts till 3 pm today. There is a possibility of continuous rain in the state for the next four days, in which these districts may receive extremely heavy rain once or twice.

Heavy rains occurred throughout the night in Himachal Pradesh. Due to this, holiday has been declared today (August 25) in schools and colleges of Una, Kangra, Chamba, Hamirpur, Solan, Kullu, Bilaspur, Lahaul Spiti and Mandi. At the same time, the first snowfall of this season has also been recorded last night at Shinkula Pass in Lahaul Spiti.

A three-storey house built on a hill in Sudhed area near Dharamshala suddenly collapsed yesterday evening. Many houses and farmers' land were submerged in Indora, Kangra, where vehicles started floating in the water.
