Fresh Western Disturbance to Impact North India
New Delhi: The impact of a Western Disturbance has completely altered the weather in the hilly states of North India. Continuous heavy snowfall in Kedarnath Dham has blanketed the entire area with a 3-4-foot thick blanket of snow. Temperatures remain below freezing, exacerbating the cold. Despite the difficult conditions, security forces are continuously patrolling and ensuring the safety of pilgrims.
According to the Meteorological Department, rain and snowfall are expected in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttarakhand between March 23 and 25. Following this, another Western Disturbance may become active from March 26, which could alter the weather in northwest India again. Another round of rain and snowfall may return between March 29 and 31.
While snowfall is occurring in many hilly areas, the weather in Srinagar remained relatively clear. The maximum temperature here was 20.4 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was 3.6 degrees Celsius. However, the Meteorological Department has predicted light snowfall here as well in the next few days.
Delhi NCR is expected to experience partly cloudy skies and light rain or drizzle between March 23 and 25. The maximum temperature during this period is expected to be between 29 and 33 degrees Celsius, and the minimum temperature between 14 and 17 degrees Celsius. This change in weather may provide some relief from the heat.
The Meteorological Department has forecast rain and thunderstorms in Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal between March 24 and 28. Hailstorms are also possible in some areas, which could damage crops.
Snowfall and rain in high-altitude areas of Himachal Pradesh, such as Kullu and Lahaul and Spiti, have increased the risk of landslides. The administration has advised people to remain vigilant. The drop in temperatures has increased the cold throughout the region.
