Bengaluru Faces Triple Tragedy in One Evening
Bengaluru: A major tragedy occurred at Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital in Shivajinagar when a section of the compound wall collapsed during heavy rain. Around 30 people were present nearby, many of them roadside vendors and pedestrians who had taken shelter. Seven people died and seven others sustained injuries after the structure gave way suddenly. Authorities suspect construction activity and weakened structure may have contributed, and a detailed investigation has been ordered.
In separate incidents, two fatalities were reported due to electrocution. A 35-year-old man from JD Mara slum died on Bannerghatta Road near Vega City Mall after coming into contact with a live electrical source. In another case, a student identified as Syed Sufiyan lost his life in Yarab Nagar while parking his motorcycle, allegedly due to leakage from a nearby electric pole during rainfall.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah visited the hospital site and later met the injured receiving treatment. He expressed concern over the incidents, ordered a preliminary inquiry, and directed officials to act against negligence if found. The state announced compensation of five lakh rupees for each deceased family and assured free medical care for the injured. Authorities have been instructed to strengthen safety checks during the monsoon period.
Officials continue monitoring vulnerable infrastructure across Bengaluru as heavy rainfall persists and further advisories are expected. Residents have been urged to avoid exposed areas, damaged structures, and live electrical installations during storms.
