New Delhi: Recently, Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar has suddenly resigned from his post, which has caused a stir in the country's politics. He took this decision, citing health reasons, and submitted his resignation to President Draupadi Murmu.
Dhankhar was about to retire on August 10, 2027, but he resigned before the completion of the term. His decision came on the very first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, which has further intensified discussions and speculations in political circles.
Dhankhar resigned under Article 67(A) of the Constitution, which allows the vice president to resign on his own. He cited his poor health and the need to follow the advice of doctors as the reason, but the opposition is not satisfied with this reason.

Congress and other opposition parties believe that there may be something more serious hidden behind the health reasons. Congress claims that the reason given is not the whole truth and the government should bring clarity to this matter.
Immediately after this development, the Election Commission started preparations for the election for the post of vice president. The Commission has informed that it is forming an electoral college consisting of MPs from both Houses of Parliament—Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha—which will elect the Vice President.
Apart from this, the Commission has also said that it is finalizing the list of election officers, and as soon as all the preparations are complete, the election schedule will be officially announced.
The post of vice president is very important in the constitution of the country. He is the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha and can perform the responsibilities of the President in his absence. In such a situation, the sudden vacancy of this post is being considered a major event.
Now everyone's eyes are on who will be the next vice president and when the Election Commission will announce its date. Also, answers to the questions raised by the opposition are yet to come.
