New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has come under intense scrutiny from members of Parliament over its new answer sheet evaluation process, with lawmakers raising concerns about its timing, execution, and impact on students.

Parliament Panel Questions ‘Rushed’ Implementation

During a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee, chaired by Congress leader Digvijaya Singh, the CBSE was questioned on why the revised evaluation system was introduced without adequate preparation. Singh reportedly asked officials whether the rollout could have been delayed to ensure better planning.

He also criticised the board, stating that the decision may have “put the future of students at stake,” and demanded written clarification on multiple issues raised during the meeting.

The committee had summoned both the CBSE Chairman and the School Education Secretary to address concerns related to paper evaluation and post-result procedures.

Concerns Over Students and Evaluation Process

The criticism comes amid growing complaints from students and parents about technical glitches, discrepancies in evaluation, and difficulties faced during post-result verification and re-evaluation processes.

Lawmakers said they were seeking accountability from education officials as concerns over transparency and reliability of the system continue to grow.

Opposition MPs Raise Questions on Contract and Training

Samajwadi Party MP Ziaur Rahman Barq also raised concerns, questioning the decision to award the evaluation contract to a company allegedly unfamiliar with the examination process. He also criticised the lack of proper training for teachers involved in the new system, calling the approach rushed and poorly planned.

Barq further said responsibility should be fixed on both officials and the implementing agency, and demanded action against those found negligent.

Student Participation Draws Attention

A student was also invited to the committee meeting, where he reportedly highlighted several issues and shortcomings in the evaluation system directly before officials. His remarks drew attention from lawmakers present.

BJP MP Bhim Singh responded with a lighter remark, suggesting that if officials were struggling with the system, the student could be appointed as an assistant to improve efficiency.

CBSE Opens Pos -Result Portal Amid Concerns

Meanwhile, CBSE has activated its portal for post-result services, including verification and re-evaluation of answer sheets from June 1, 2026. The board said the move aims to ensure a “transparent and glitch-free” process for students.

Earlier, the portal was expected to go live on May 29 but was delayed. CBSE has also faced criticism over issues such as technical glitches, payment failures, and access problems linked to its On-Screen Marking system.

Students and parents have been advised to use the official helpline and email support for assistance.
