Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party, challenging the party to target her residence as well if it intended to intimidate leaders of the ruling Trinamool Congress.

The chief minister’s remarks came during a rally in Kolkata, following reports that stones were thrown at the residence of state minister Shashi Panja.

Allegations of Attack on Minister’s Residence

According to reports, the incident took place in the Girish Park area of Kolkata, where unidentified individuals allegedly pelted stones at Panja’s house.

Police said four people have been arrested in connection with the clash, while raids are continuing to identify and detain others suspected to be involved in the incident.

Reacting to the development, Banerjee accused the BJP of being behind the attack and warned that her party would not be intimidated by such actions.

‘We Know How to Resist’

Addressing party supporters, Banerjee issued a strong challenge to the BJP. She said that if the opposition party wished to attack the homes of Trinamool Congress leaders, they could also try targeting her residence. The chief minister added that the party and its supporters were capable of resisting such actions.

Banerjee also criticised the alleged violence occurring on the same day as a rally addressed by Narendra Modi in the state. She accused the BJP of encouraging anti-social elements and said the party should be ashamed of the alleged attack on a state minister’s residence.

Protest Over LPG Shortage

Earlier in the day, Banerjee led a protest march against the central government over reports of a shortage of LPG cylinders linked to the ongoing tensions in West Asia.

With the election campaign gaining momentum, the latest exchange between the TMC and BJP signals a sharpening political battle in the state.
