New Delhi: AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami is set to visit New Delhi on Thursday as seat-sharing negotiations between the AIADMK and the BJP enter a decisive phase ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

According to sources, Palaniswami will depart from Chennai in the morning and is expected to hold discussions with senior BJP leaders in the national capital. He is likely to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah to finalise the allocation of constituencies between the two alliance partners.

The meeting is being seen as a critical step toward concluding the alliance framework, with both parties aiming to reach a consensus soon.

Pressure Mounts After Poll Announcement

With the Election Commission announcing the poll schedule, political activity across Tamil Nadu has intensified. Parties are accelerating negotiations to finalise alliances and shift focus to campaign planning.

The ruling DMK has already made significant progress, completing seat-sharing arrangements with key allies such as Congress and CPI, while discussions with other partners are nearing completion.

Alliance Yet to Finalise Formula

In contrast, the AIADMK-BJP alliance has not yet officially announced its seat-sharing formula. Both sides are believed to be working towards an arrangement that balances their electoral strengths and regional influence.

The delay has added urgency to the ongoing talks, making Palaniswami’s visit to Delhi particularly significant.

BJP Leadership Steps In

Union Minister Piyush Goyal, who is overseeing the BJP’s election strategy in Tamil Nadu, is also expected to visit Chennai later this week. His visit is likely to focus on resolving pending issues, including constituency allocation and campaign coordination.

Crucial Phase for Alliance

Political observers note that the outcome of the Delhi meetings could shape the electoral prospects of the AIADMK-BJP alliance. With limited time before campaigning begins in full swing, both parties are under pressure to conclude negotiations quickly.

The discussions in the national capital are expected to determine the final contours of the alliance as Tamil Nadu heads toward a closely watched Assembly election.
