New Delhi: The divine festival of Chhath Puja 2025 has reached its most sacred phase today, October 27, as millions of devotees across India gather on riverbanks and ponds to offer Sandhya Arghya- prayers to the setting sun. The air is filled with devotion, the ghats are beautifully decorated, and chants of “Jai Chhathi Maiya!” echo across towns and villages.
This four-day festival began on October 25 with Nahay-Khay, followed by Kharna on October 26. The rituals will conclude tomorrow, October 28, with the Usha Arghya the offering to the rising sun symbolizing the end of fasting and the beginning of blessings.

Celebrated prominently in Bihar, Jharkhand, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Nepal, Chhath Puja is a festival that honors the Sun God (Surya Dev) and Chhathi Maiya, expressing gratitude for life, energy, and prosperity.
Chhath Puja is often called the festival of discipline and purity. Devotees, mostly women, observe a 36-hour nirjala vrat (fast without water) and stand in rivers or ponds while offering prayers during sunrise and sunset.
From Patna’s Ganga ghats to Varanasi’s Assi Ghat, and from Delhi’s Yamuna banks to Mumbai’s Juhu Beach, millions have gathered with baskets of thekua, sugarcane, and fruits to make offerings.
