Congress balances Kerala factions with key poll panel appointments ahead of assembly elections

Given the rampant groupism in the Congress party in Kerala, the Congress high command on Friday evenly balanced the groups in the new campaign committee and manifesto committee, which were announced today for the upcoming Assembly elections. Both Ramesh Chennithala and Shashi Tharoor were accommodated.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Congress party today set up two key committees for the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections, with senior leader Ramesh Chennithala and Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor appointed chairman and co-chairman of the party campaign committee, as per Dynamite News correspondent.

Tharoor’s Appointment Gains Significance

Tharoor's appointment assumes significance as it comes days after he met Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, for redressal of his grievances, after which he said “all is good” and “we are all on the same page.” Since then, Shashi Tharoor has been speaking prominently for the Congress and also initiated the discussion on the Union Budget in the Lok Sabha.

High Command Approves Committees

Kharge has approved the proposal for the constitution of the campaign committee and manifesto committee of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee for the upcoming Assembly elections.

While Chennithala has been named the chairman of the campaign committee, Tharoor has been appointed its co-chairman. Congress MP Benny Behanan will be the chairman of the manifesto committee.

Members of Campaign and Manifesto Panels

Other members of the campaign committee include Shafi Parambil, Hibi Eden, C. R. Mahesh, Ramya Haridas, and M. Liju. The manifesto committee includes Kodikkunnil Suresh, Dean Kuriakose, and Jebi Mather.
