Cyclone Ditwah has caused heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu, resulting in three deaths and extensive crop and property damage. Two people died due to wall collapses and one due to electrocution. Over 2,300 people have been accommodated in 38 relief camps across nine districts.
Heavy Rain Claims Lives, Crops Damaged in TN
Chennai: Cyclone Ditwaha brought heavy rains to Tamil Nadu, killing three people since Saturday evening (November 29, 2025). State Revenue and Disaster Management Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran said on Sunday morning (November 30) that two people died due to wall collapses in Thanjavur and Thoothukudi districts, while one person died due to electrocution in Mayiladuthurai district.
The minister said that more than 2,300 people have been accommodated in a total of 38 relief camps across nine districts of the state. These camps include 10 in Nagapattinam, 9 in Pudukkottai, 7 in Villupuram, 4 in Tiruvarur, 2 each in Mayiladuthurai, Ramanathapuram, and Thanjavur, and 1 each in Chengalpattu and Ranipet.

Due to heavy rains, crops covering approximately 56,000 hectares have been submerged. Of these, 24,000 hectares were affected in Nagapattinam, 15,000 hectares in Tiruvarur, and 8,000 hectares in Mayiladuthurai. The minister said that after the water recedes, officials will assess the actual damage and the Chief Minister will decide on compensation for the farmers.
Approximately 230 huts have also been damaged due to the floods and rains. Thirty-eight NDRF teams are already deployed in Tamil Nadu, and 10 additional teams have been sent to carry out relief work in the affected areas if needed.

Minister Ramachandran said that the Tamil Nadu government is coordinating with other government agencies to ensure the safe return of those stranded in Sri Lanka. He also stated that the weather in Sri Lanka has become favorable for air traffic, while the weather in the state is gradually returning to normal.
Following the joint efforts of the state government and the district administration, the minister stated that the situation is "completely under control" and "not out of our hands."
