BJP releases first list of 47 candidates
Thiruvananthapuram: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday announced its first list of 47 candidates for the upcoming 2026 Kerala Legislative Assembly election, fielding several senior leaders and prominent faces across key constituencies in the state.
Among the notable candidates, Rajeev Chandrasekhar will contest from Nemom, while former state party chief K. Surendran has been nominated from the Manjeshwar constituency.
The party’s candidate list includes several well-known leaders from across the state. Former national president of the BJP Mahila Morcha Sobha Surendran has been fielded from Palakkad.
Other key candidates include V. Muraleedharan from Kazhakkoottam and P. C. George from Poonjar. The list also features leaders such as Navya Haridas from Kozhikode North and Padmaja Venugopal from Thrissur.

The announced candidates will contest from several constituencies spread across northern, central and southern Kerala.
These include Manjeshwar, Udma, Kannur, Vadakara, Kozhikode North, Palakkad, Thrissur, Pala, Haripad, Thiruvalla, Attingal, Kazhakkoottam and Kattakkada among others.

The party’s first list covers a mix of senior leaders, former ministers and regional political figures as it prepares for the upcoming electoral contest.
The Kerala Assembly elections will be held in a single phase on April 9, with counting of votes scheduled for May 4. The state has a total of 140 Assembly seats. The government is currently led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of the Left Democratic Front, which has been in power since 2016.
