Over 15 students injured as goods train rams college bus near Karur in Tamil Nadu

At least 15 people were injured after a goods train collided with a private college bus near Velliyanai in Tamil Nadu’s Karur district. Authorities have launched an inquiry as questions arise over the railway crossing and safety measures.

Karur: A serious accident occurred near Velliyanai in Tamil Nadu’s Karur district after a goods train collided with a private college bus, leaving several students injured and triggering an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.

Several Students Injured in Collision

According to preliminary reports, over 15 people sustained injuries in the accident, most of them students travelling in the bus. All the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials said one of the victims is in critical condition and is currently undergoing intensive medical care.

Authorities Rush to Spot

The incident took place near a railway crossing at Velliyanai when the freight train struck the bus. Soon after the accident, police and emergency services rushed to the spot. Karur Superintendent of Police Josh Thangaih reached the site and is supervising the initial inquiry into the incident.

Fire and rescue personnel also arrived at the location to clear the debris and assist in rescue operations.

Probe Underway

Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to determine how the collision occurred. One of the key aspects under scrutiny is whether the bus attempted to cross the railway tracks when the train was approaching.

Investigators are also examining whether the railway gate at the crossing was closed at the time of the accident.

Leaders Visit Hospital

Meanwhile, Karur Member of Parliament Jothimani visited the hospital to inquire about the condition of the injured students. Officials said further details will emerge as the investigation progresses.
