New Delhi: A big change can be seen in the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) in the coming times. Actually, the current BCCI President Roger Binny will turn 70 on July 19. According to the rules of the BCCI, the maximum age limit of the president is 70 years.
In such a situation, he will have to leave his post, and for this reason a new face can emerge as BCCI President, reports Dynamite News.
The name at the forefront of this race is BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla. He may be appointed as the acting (interim) president in July. It is likely that from July 19, he will take over this responsibility and will remain in this role for about three months, after which elections will be held in September.
Rajeev Shukla is an experienced leader and cricket administrator. He has also previously been the chairman of the IPL and has held many important positions in the BCCI. His long experience in both cricket administration and politics makes him a strong contender for the post.
Now let's talk about Roger Binny, who was elected the 36th President of BCCI in October 2022. He replaced Sourav Ganguly, who had completed a three-year term. Binny was the only candidate for the post at that time.
During his tenure, India won two major ICC tournaments —the T20 World Cup 2024 and the Champions Trophy 2025. Also, the Women's Premier League (WPL) was also started under his leadership. Domestic cricket also got a boost; players' salaries increased, and senior Team India players were given strict guidelines to play in domestic tournaments.
Talking about his cricket career, Roger Binny was an important member of the Indian team that won the 1983 World Cup. He took the highest number of 18 wickets in that tournament and played an important role in India's victory.
He represented India in 27 Tests and 72 ODIs. He took 47 wickets and scored 830 runs (5 half-centuries) in Tests, while he took 77 wickets and scored 629 runs (1 half-century) in ODIs. He has also been a member of the BCCI selection committee before this.
So overall, a leadership change in BCCI after July 19 is considered certain, and Rajiv Shukla is likely to become the acting president. It will be interesting to see who is elected as the permanent president in September.
