Sidra Amin Faces ICC Sanction
Colombo: Pakistan batter Sidra Amin has been reprimanded and handed one demerit point by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the Women’s World Cup clash against India at the R Premadasa Stadium on Sunday.
Amin, who top-scored for Pakistan with a fighting 81-run knock, was found guilty of breaching Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct. This article relates to the “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment, or fixtures and fittings during an international match.”
Despite her notable performance with the bat, the disciplinary breach overshadowed her innings and attracted ICC attention.
The incident occurred in the 40th over of Pakistan’s chase when Amin, frustrated after being dismissed by India’s Sneh Rana, forcefully hit her bat onto the pitch. The ICC, in a statement, confirmed that this action constituted a violation of Level 1 conduct. Pakistan eventually was bowled out for 159 while chasing India’s total of 247, losing the match by 88 runs.
Pakistan lost the match by 88 runs.
The ICC clarified, “In addition to this, one demerit point has been added to her disciplinary record, for whom it was the first offence in a 24-month period.” The sanction was proposed by Shandré Fritz, a member of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees. Amin accepted the charge and penalty, thereby avoiding the need for a formal hearing.
The charges were lodged by on-field umpires Lauren Agenbag and Nimali Perera, third umpire Kerrin Klaaste, and fourth umpire Kim Cotton. This collective assessment by the match officials confirmed the Level 1 breach, emphasizing the ICC’s commitment to maintaining discipline and decorum on the field.

Under ICC regulations, Level 1 breaches carry penalties ranging from an official reprimand to a fine of up to 50% of a player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points. As this was Amin’s first disciplinary offence within a 24-month period, she received a single demerit point along with the official reprimand.
Despite her impressive batting display, Amin’s post-dismissal reaction has now entered her disciplinary record. The ICC’s action reinforces its zero-tolerance approach to misconduct, even in high-pressure World Cup matches. Amin’s team and fans now turn their attention to Pakistan’s upcoming fixtures, hoping for better on-field discipline alongside strong performances.
