

Ravichandran Ashwin has announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League after 16 seasons. The 38-year-old, who last played for Chennai Super Kings in the 2025 season, thanked all franchises and the IPL for an incredible journey.

New Delhi: Indian cricket team's experienced off-spinner R Ashwin has officially announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL). He shared the information about his decision through social media, which created a stir among cricket lovers. Ashwin, who has played in the IPL for 16 years, will now be seen playing in T20 leagues around the world.
Ashwin wrote in his tweet, "A special day and a new beginning. Every end brings a new beginning. My journey as an IPL player ends here, but the new journey as a global T20 player is starting."

He also thanked all the franchises and BCCI who gave him opportunities and recognition. His post indicates that he may soon play in international tournaments like BBL, CPL or T10 League.
R Ashwin played 221 matches in his long IPL career, in which he took 187 wickets. His best performance was 34 runs for 4 wickets. He could take 4 wickets only once in his career.

In batting, he scored 833 runs, with 50 runs being his highest score and a half-century to his name. This performance is considered quite impressive for a bowler. He entered the field for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025
In the IPL 2025 season, Ashwin was bought by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for Rs 9.75 crore. However, his performance was a bit lackluster this season. He could take only 7 wickets in 9 matches.
During his career, Ashwin played for five franchises like Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings and Rising Pune Supergiants.
