New Delhi: Former Indian captain and star opener Rohit Sharma has achieved another major milestone in ODI cricket. In the first ODI against South Africa, Rohit surpassed Pakistan's Shahid Afridi to become the batsman with the most sixes in ODI history. Prior to the match, Rohit was three sixes away from achieving this feat, but as soon as he hit three sixes, he set a new world record.

Strong start, excellent timing, and explosive style

Rohit capitalized on the life he received early in the match. He was in excellent form during the previous tour of Australia and displayed the same brilliance against South Africa. Shahid Afridi had hit 351 sixes in his career, while Rohit now tops the list with 352 sixes. He achieved this feat in just 270 innings, significantly less than Afridi.

Three Record-Breaking Sixes

In the 15th over of the innings, Rohit equaled Afridi's record by smashing two consecutive sixes over deep midwicket off South African spinner Prenellan Subrayen. He then achieved a world record with another brilliant pull shot towards deep square leg off Marco Jansen. His timing, power, and confidence were palpable.

A century partnership with Kohli steadied Team India's innings

The Indian innings was under some pressure after Yashasvi Jaiswal's early dismissal. However, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli laid the foundation for a strong second-wicket partnership. The two batsmen added 136 runs off 109 balls, putting India in a strong position. Kohli played in his classic style, rotating the strike, while Rohit maintained his aggressive approach.

End of a brilliant innings, but left an impact

Rohit was batting in good rhythm, but his innings ended when he was dismissed LBW by Marco Jansen. He scored 57 runs off 51 balls, hitting five fours and three sixes. However, despite his dismissal, his performance had become the foundation of the Indian innings. His partnership with Kohli led Team India towards a big score.

New chapter, new record, Rohit again No. 1

Rohit Sharma has always been known for his ability to play big shots and turn matches around. This record adds another golden chapter to his career. His fitness, form, and aggressive batting indicate that many more records can be expected from him in the coming matches.
