New Delhi: Twenty teams participated in the T20 World Cup 2026, but 12 were eliminated after the group stage. Among them, Oman, Namibia, and Canada were eliminated from the tournament after losing all four matches. However, despite failing to win, these teams will not return empty-handed. They will receive prize money worth crores of rupees from the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Three Teams Failed to Win Single Match

Namibia was in Group A with India, Pakistan, the Netherlands, and the United States, but lost all four matches. Canada lost against South Africa, New Zealand, Afghanistan, and the UAE. Oman, meanwhile, failed to overcome Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Australia, and Ireland. These three teams had a disappointing campaign, while all the other teams recorded at least one win.

Crores in Prize Money to Receive from ICC

Despite poor performance, every team receives financial assistance under the International Cricket Council's prize structure. In the last edition, teams finishing 9th to 12th received US$247,500 (approximately ₹2.25 crore). Teams finishing 13th to 20th received US$225,000 (approximately ₹2 crore).

In this context, Oman, Namibia, and Canada are also set to receive at least ₹2 crore (approximately ₹2 crore). This amount will prove to be a significant relief for them.

Major boost for Associate Nations

Teams like Oman, Namibia, and Canada are Associate Nations, gaining experience by participating in major tournaments. The prize money received from the ICC is crucial for their cricket development. This money can be used for player development programs, strengthening the domestic cricket structure, and better preparation for international competition.

Experience will strengthen

Although we didn't win this time, playing on a platform like the World Cup is a significant achievement in itself. The players on these teams gained experience at the highest level of competition, which will help them improve their performance in the future. This experience could allow them to emerge as stronger teams in the years to come.
