New Delhi: Teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scripted history on Saturday by becoming the youngest cricketer to represent India in international cricket. The 15-year-old made his debut in the second T20I against England at Old Trafford, surpassing a 36-year-old record previously held by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.

Fearless start on international stage

Sooryavanshi displayed remarkable confidence at the crease. After opening his account with a single, he announced his arrival by smashing England speedster Jofra Archer for a massive six over the wicketkeeper's head.

The youngster followed it up with another towering six off pacer Josh Tongue, treating fans to an early glimpse of the aggressive batting style that earned him widespread attention during IPL 2026. His attacking approach gave India a brisk start and electrified the Old Trafford crowd.

Short but impactful innings

Sooryavanshi's promising innings ended in the fifth over when he attempted to attack spinner Will Jacks. Advancing down the pitch, he was beaten in flight and stumped by England captain Jos Buttler.

The teenager walked back after scoring 14 runs off just 10 deliveries, including two sixes.

Reward for a remarkable rise

The Bihar prodigy's debut comes after a sensational IPL 2026 campaign, where he emerged as one of the tournament's biggest stars. His performances earned him a place in India's T20I squad for the tours of Ireland and England.

Although his maiden international innings was brief, Sooryavanshi's fearless strokeplay and record-breaking debut marked the beginning of what many believe could be a bright future in Indian cricket.

At 15 years and 99 days, the left-handed batter overtook Tendulkar, who made his India debut at 16 years and 205 days in 1989. He also became the youngest Indian to play international cricket, going past former spinner Piyush Chawla.
