New Delhi: India's brightest star and Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra is now starting a historic sporting event in his name—the Neeraj Chopra Classic. The competition will be held on July 5 at 6:30 pm at the Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru, where some of the best javelin throwers in the world will participate, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

Won every major title in career

27-year-old Neeraj Chopra has won almost every major title in his career: Olympic gold, World Championship, Diamond League Finals, and Asian and Commonwealth Games gold medals. Now he is trying to take Indian sports to new heights by organizing a world-class competition in the country.

Objective of the event

The objective of this event is not only to compete but also to give the Indian audience an opportunity to see world-class athletes in front of them. The competition is part of the 'Continental Tour' of World Athletics and has received Category 'A' status.

Neeraj will try to cross the 90-meter distance for the second time this season. He had his career-best performance by throwing 90.12 meters in Doha in May. Now he will be seen competing again in India after a gap of one year.

It was my dream: Neeraj Chopra

Neeraj said, "It was my dream to have an international competition in India too, and now that dream is coming true. I have won a lot for the country; now it is time to give something back to the country too."

A total of 12 athletes will participate in the competition, out of which 5 have already qualified for the upcoming World Championships. However, two big names, Anderson Peters of Grenada and Julian Weber of Germany, have dropped out due to injury and personal reasons. Despite this, the shine of the event will not diminish, as Neeraj's popularity is enough to fill the stadium.

Neeraj's coach and world record holder in javelin throw Jan Zelezny will also be present on the occasion. The event is being organized by JSW Sports in collaboration with the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) and World Athletics.

The competition will be held every year

This competition will be held every year, and in the future other athletic events will also be added to it. Earlier this event was to be held in Panchkula, but due to technical reasons and security issues, it was shifted to Bengaluru.
