WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event: New Women’s Tag Champs Crowned, Punk and Rhodes Set for SummerSlam

WWE's Saturday Night's Main Event at Madison Square Garden delivered big SummerSlam fallout. Punk and Rhodes beat Gunther and Zayn to keep their title match one on one, Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid dethroned the Bella twins for the Women's Tag Team titles, Danhausen won with a surprise assist from Karl-Anthony Towns, and Roman Reigns closed the show fighting off Seth Rollins and Tyrese Haliburton alongside Jalen Brunson.

WWE rolled back into Madison Square Garden on July 18 for Saturday Night's Main Event, and it was a stacked show heading into SummerSlam. Big matches, big names, and even a surprise cameo from Danhausen, who came back to New York to soak in the Knicks' recent NBA title run.

Punk and Rhodes keep their SummerSlam match intact.

The main event saw CM Punk and Cody Rhodes team up against Sami Zayn and Gunther, and they pulled out the win. That result matters because it locks in Punk vs. Rhodes as a one-on-one match at SummerSlam for the Undisputed WWE Championship, with Zayn and Gunther now out of the picture. The finish had a twist too. Nick Aldis pulled the referee out during a big move, then blasted Gunther with the title belt himself, clearing the way for Punk to hit a GTS and get the pin. Feels like Aldis and Gunther have unfinished business brewing now.

New Women's Tag Team Champions

Paige and Brie Bella looked strong early against challengers Lainey Reid and Fallon Henley, but things got messy down the stretch. Jacy Jayne kept inserting herself into the match. She first took an accidental shot from Paige, then came back later to pull Paige off what looked like a match-winning pin. That opening let Reid sneak in with a pinfall of her own, and she and Henley walked away as the new champs, ending the Bella twins' reign at the top.

JD McDonagh tried to dodge Danhausen's curse early on, then took control of the match with backup from Dominik Mysterio. Things got weird fast. There was a beatdown at ringside, a torn-up Knicks jersey, and even a group of tiny "minihausens" who ran in and got wiped out just as quickly. Then Danhausen busted out his so-called cloning machine, and out popped Knicks star Karl Anthony Towns. Towns cleaned house with a chokeslam on McDonagh and put Mysterio through a table, then set Danhausen up for the finishing move that sealed the win.

Roman Reigns brought out Knicks star Jalen Brunson to celebrate the team's championship run and even handed him an honorary title belt. That celebration got interrupted when Seth Rollins' music hit. Except it wasn't Rollins who walked out first. It was Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton, carrying a steel chair. Rollins jumped Reigns from behind, and when Haliburton tried to hand off the chair for a cheap shot, Brunson stepped in and blocked it. That gave Reigns just enough room to fight back with a Superman Punch and a Spear, sending Rollins and Haliburton running. The show closed with Reigns and Brunson celebrating together, holding up the World Heavyweight Title and the Larry O'Brien Trophy side by side.
