Delhi Zoo celebrates World Wildlife Day under the theme 'Life below water: for people and planet'

National Zoological Park in Delhi celebrated the World Wildlife Day on Sunday under the theme 'Life below water: for people and planet.'



New Delhi: National Zoological Park in Delhi celebrated the World Wildlife Day on Sunday under the theme 'Life below water: for people and planet.'

 

“The idea was to spread awareness among the youth about role of animals below water,” said Renu Singh, Delhi zoo director.

 

Siddhanta Das, Director General of Forests was the chief guest of the event. He said, " The Wildlife Protection Act was enforcd in 1972 but the people of india are protecting wildlife sinces ages." 

 

Youth gathered took a pledge to protect & preserve the extraordinary diversity of marine life and commited themselves to the conservation & preservation of the marine life in particular & wildlife in general for prosperity for the planet & for future generations.

 

Francine Pickup, Resident Representative , UNDP India,  said, "India has a special relationship with the sea. It has 7,500 km of coastline, and 14% of all Indians – 168 million people – are directly dependent on the ocean for their livelihoods. But that relationship is under grave threat."

 

This is the first World Wildlife Day to focus on life below water. It is a great opportunity to raise awareness about the breathtaking diversity of marine life, the crucial importance of marine species to human development, and how we can make sure it will continue to provide these services for future generations.
