Mumbai: A man was taken into custody by the Mumbai police on Monday over issuing threats to Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) chairman Mukesh Ambani and his family, officials have said.

The man, identified as Afzal, had made three-four threat calls on a landline number at the Reliance Foundation Hospital here.

The suspect was traced after the police identified the phone number from which he had made the calls, officials said.

In a statement, the Mumbai Police said: "Reliance Foundation has filed a complaint about the threat calls to Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani and his family. More than three calls were received at the hospital. A probe is underway."

A preliminary investigation suggests the caller is mentally unstable.

A case has been registered and the man is currently being questioned by the police.

Last month, the Supreme Court had ruled that Mukesh Ambani and his family in Mumbai can continue to have security provided by the central government, dismissing a petition challenging the provision.
