The Supreme Court on Tuesday told the Tripura government to consider the option of deploying Central forces for the civic polls scheduled for November 25.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday told the Tripura government to consider the option of deploying Central forces for the civic polls scheduled for November 25.
A bench headed by Justice Dhananjaya Yashwant Chandrachud and also comprising Justice Vikram Nath asked the state government to consider deploying paramilitary forces to ensure free and fair polls.
"We don't want to go into bickering. We want to ensure that there's sense of security. Adding central para military forces will level some confidence," Justice Chandrachud observed, during the course of the hearing.
The All India Trinamool Congress had filed a contempt petition in the Court, seeking its intervention for free and fair elections. The confidence in the parties is so low that the CPI(M) has withdrawn its candidates from the polls, lawyer Jaideep Gupta, representing AITC, submitted to the apex court today during the arguments.(UNI)
