UP: Court Hands 10-Year Jail To Mafia Mukhtar Ansari With Rs.5 Lakh Fine In 1996 Case

The MPMLA Court on Thursday sentenced 10-year imprisonment to gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, currently lodged in UP's Banda Jail. Read on for details:

Ghazipur: The MP/MLA Court on Thursday sentenced 10-year imprisonment to gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, currently lodged in UP's Banda Jail under Gangster Act.The court also imposed a fine of Rs.5 lakh on him.

Mukhtar's aide Bhim Singh has also been sentenced to 10-year jail. Mukhtar Ansari wept in the court after the sentence was announced.

After hearing the Awadhesh Rai murder case, the court convicted Mukhtar Ansari and his associate Bhim Singh. 

A case under the Gangster Act was registered against Mukhtar Ansari and his associate in Sadar Kotwali in Ghazipur in the year 1996. Earlier the decision was to come in this matter on November 25 itself, but the process was stalled due to the transfer of the presiding officer. After the completion of the hearing, the court had reserved the verdict. The court fixed the date of 15 December for the announcement of the sentence.
