CBI takes over Karur Stampede case that killed 41 at actor-politian Vijay’s rally

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the probe into the case of the tragic stampede that killed 41 lives during a rally of actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party on 27 September in Karur, Tamil Nadu.

A CBI Team recently visited the site at Velusamypuram in Karur and inspected the area. The Team also met with victims and their families and recorded their statements as part of the probe.

The Supreme Court set aside a Madras High Court directive calling for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe and handed over the probe to the CBI. The Madras High Court had earlier constituted an SIT led by Officer Asha Garg.
