New Delhi: Starlink is a satellite-based internet network, which provides internet service with the help of thousands of small satellites located in the Earth's low-Earth orbit (LEO). This technology is more effective in areas where the infrastructure is not developed than traditional broadband.
Download speed: 100–250 Mbps
Upload speed: 20–40 Mbps
Latency (Ping): 20 to 50 milliseconds
Users in India are also likely to get the same level of speed, which will improve the experience of HD streaming, video calling, gaming and online classes.
The prices of Starlink's Indian service have not been officially announced yet, but keeping in mind the international pricing, it is estimated that its monthly plans can be between ₹ 2,000 to ₹ 5,000. Apart from this, the one-time kit cost can be around ₹ 40,000.
Satellite internet service will require dish antenna, wiring, mounting equipment and WiFi router. Once these devices are installed, users will only have to pay a monthly fee.
Fast internet will now be available even in border, hilly and remote areas. Connectivity will be possible through satellite internet even in the absence of traditional networks like Jio and Airtel. This will benefit rural students with online education and health facilities can be delivered to remote areas through telemedicine. This initiative will promote digitization and help connect panchayats, schools and local businesses digitally. The communication system will remain intact even in the event of a disaster, which will speed up relief and rescue operations.
OneWeb (Eutelsat) is a joint project launched by Indian company Bharti Enterprise and the British government. This project mainly provides satellite internet services to government and corporate clients. On the other hand, Reliance Jio's new service JioSpaceFiber is currently in the trial phase in limited areas and its main focus is to provide internet connectivity in remote areas. At the same time, Hughes Communications India has been providing satellite internet services to the government and defense sectors for many years and is known as an experienced provider in this field.
