Gmail’s New AI Inbox Can Draft Replies and Manage To-Dos
New Delhi: Tech giant Google has introduced a major artificial intelligence update to its popular email platform, Gmail. The company has launched a new AI Inbox feature that will not only read emails but also handle a variety of tasks, from drafting emails to creating to-do lists. Its goal is to transform Gmail into a smart task management workspace.
AI Inbox will understand a user's email patterns, language, and context to separate important and non-essential emails. After reading each email, it will identify the task at hand such as replying to someone, following up, or remembering a deadline. The AI will then automatically create a to-do list and, if necessary, create a draft reply. This will significantly reduce the need for users to read each email in detail.

AI Inbox will extract important information from scattered emails and display it in one place. For example, if a hospital appointment has been changed, a business partner needs to respond, or a fee deadline is approaching, AI will recognize these tasks and provide timely reminders. AI summaries of multiple emails related to the same topic will also be created, allowing for understanding the entire conversation in seconds.
Google says that AI Inbox will not be limited to email in the future. It can also be linked to actions like making phone calls, booking appointments, and making payments. The company wants to develop it into an AI agent that can handle many digital tasks on behalf of the user.

Currently, the AI Inbox feature is available to a limited number of trusted testers in the US. The company is preparing to roll it out to other users in a phased manner.
Google will provide AI-generated email summaries and personalized auto replies for free to all Gmail users. Those with paid plans like Google One AI Pro will get features like grammar check, advanced email search, and deep AI summaries. However, experts believe that excessive task suggestions can overwhelm users and raise questions about trust in AI decisions.
