The Karur incident has become a political opportunity for the BJP ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The BJP will soon send a team of eight MPs to conduct its own investigation and seek to garner support in the elections.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Minister Dr L Murugan visited the Government Medical College and Hospital in Karur, where those injured in the stampede are being treated.
The youngest among 41 dead in the stampede is a two-year-old boy. Others included a 28-year-old woman and her two daughters under 10, and a 24-year-old couple set to marry.
This financial assistance will be provided to the victims of the tragic stampede where at least 39 people, including children and women lost their lives and dozens were injured.

Following the tragedy, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced immediate relief measures and ordered a formal inquiry into the incident.
As per the police chief, the organisers had expected around 10,000 people to appear in the actor-politician rally instead around 27,000 turned up.
