High Court to hear Vijay's plea today
Tamil Nadu: Actor-politician Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam's legal wing has moved to the Madras High Court claiming political conspiracy into the Karur rally stampede that left 40 people, including women and children dead and over 80 injured on Saturday.
The party sought an independent probe into the matter while mentioning its petition before Justice M Dhandapani, requesting an urgent hearing. The matter has been listed for hearing on Monday at 2.15 pm.

The team also urged the court to initiate suo motu proceedings in view of the scale of the tragedy. TVK functionary Nirmal Kumar said that Justice Dhandapani advised them to formally file a petition before the Madurai Bench. Meanwhile, the party has filed a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission, alleging that a conspiracy was behind the incident.
Previously in August 2025 when TVK had approached the court regarding unnecessary boundations that the police was implying in its rally by asking pregnant women and children to not be there.
Demand for suo moto proceedings
Responding to this the court asked TVK chief to act responsibly so that the safety and security be maintained and set an example by asking pregnant women and children to stay at home during such rallies.

Following the tragedy, FIRs were lodged against Vijay, TVK general secretary Bussy Anand, and local TVK secretary Mathivalagan by Karur police. Heavy security has also been deployed at his residence near Chennai.
Earlier in the day, police carried out a security check at the Chennai residence of TVK chief and actor Vijay after he received a bomb threat. A bomb disposal squad and sniffer dogs were rushed to his Neelankarai home, while local police strengthened security with at least 15 additional personnel.
An investigation into the threat call is currently underway. Meanwhile, the actor-turned-politician has announced a financial relief of Rs 20 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic stampede during his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu.
