New Delhi: A fresh wave of political activity has emerged from Manipur as several Bharatiya Janata Party legislators headed to Delhi. The development has triggered widespread speculation about the future of governance in the state, which has remained under President rule since February. The sudden travel plans signaled urgency and possible high level discussions within the party.
From early Saturday morning, the airport in Imphal witnessed an unusual rush of elected representatives. Several BJP MLAs were seen checking in hurriedly for flights to the national capital. Their quick departure and limited public comments added to the sense that important decisions could be on the horizon.
Some lawmakers openly expressed optimism about the outcome of the Delhi meetings. According to them, the invitation came directly from the party leadership. Many MLAs indicated that discussions may revolve around forming a new government that reflects public aspirations and restores political stability in the state.
Several leaders mentioned that the invitation may not be limited to one group of legislators. There were indications that Kuki MLAs could also be part of the proposed discussions. If confirmed, this would mark an important step toward inclusive dialogue in a state deeply affected by ethnic tensions.

According to senior party figures, a collective meeting of MLAs with the central leadership is expected soon. Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh confirmed that invitations were extended broadly. The timing of the meeting suggests that the party is keen to assess numbers, unity and leadership options before taking any final call.
Some BJP legislators believe that a popularly elected government could be formed before the end of the month. They stated that the central objective of the discussions would be to end the political vacuum and move toward a stable administration that can focus on governance and reconciliation.

Not all voices, however, echoed the same certainty. A few MLAs cautioned that peace and stability should remain the top priority. They said that while government formation is important, the fragile ground situation demands careful and responsible decision making.
Former chief minister N Biren Singh also traveled to Delhi and expressed hope that the meetings would lead to positive decisions. While he avoided giving timelines, he said clarity would emerge after consultations with senior leaders. Party insiders believe he remains a strong contender for the top post if a new government is formed.
Within the party, two clear groups are believed to have taken shape. One faction reportedly supports N Biren Singh, while another backs Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh. Several MLAs are said to be aligning with the Speaker, indicating that leadership selection may be a key focus of the discussions.
Manipur has witnessed prolonged ethnic unrest since May two thousand twenty three. Violence between the Meitei community in the valley and the Kuki tribes in hill areas has resulted in hundreds of deaths and large scale displacement. The political uncertainty has further complicated efforts toward reconciliation and recovery.
Senior party leaders have maintained silence on the exact agenda and possible outcomes of the Delhi meetings. For now, all eyes remain on the capital as Manipur awaits clarity on whether a new chapter of governance is about to begin.
