The first holy dip of the Magh Mela was held on the day of Paush Purnima, with approximately 900,000 devotees taking a dip in the sacred confluence by 9 AM, experiencing a profound sense of faith.

Security and Arrangements

The administration has tightened security arrangements from the very first day. Due to the increasing crowds, mobile patrolling units of the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) have been deployed in the fair area.

According to fair officer Rishi Raj, adequate changing rooms and complete security surveillance are in place to ensure that devotees can take their holy dip safely and in an orderly manner.

Significance of Magh Mela

The Magh Mela is held during the Hindu month of Magh, which falls between January and February. It lasts for 45 days and concludes on Mahashivratri.

A total of six major bathing days are observed during the Magh Mela, including Paush Purnima, Makar Sankranti, Mauni Amavasya, Basant Panchami, and Magh Purnima. Each bathing day holds religious and mythological significance, and devotees observe them with special fasts and prayers.

Difference Between Magh Mela and Kumbh Mela

The Magh Mela in Prayagraj is held every year, but every fourth year it transforms into the Kumbh Mela. Every twelfth year, it is celebrated as the Maha Kumbh. Therefore, this Magh Mela is not only religiously significant but also holds immense cultural and social importance.

Facilities for Devotees

Special attention has been given to crowd management and facilities in the fair area. The administration has ensured ATS team patrols for crowd control, sufficient changing rooms, security surveillance, and convenient bathing ghats.
