Raebareli: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Raebareli has flagged significant discrepancies, with notices issued to over 2.34 lakh voters due to anomalies in age records and family details.
According to officials, around 2.32 lakh voters had earlier received notices over “no mapping” issues, and hearings in those cases are currently underway. In the second phase of scrutiny, authorities identified approximately 2.34 lakh voters whose recorded age differences with parents or grandparents appeared logically inconsistent - including cases where the age gap between father and son exceeded 50 years or was less than 15 years, and instances where the age difference between grandfather and grandson was under 40 years.
These cases have been categorized as “logical discrepancies,” primarily involving spelling mistakes, incorrect age entries, or mismatched family data. Officials clarified that names will be retained or corrected in the voter list only after verification of supporting documents during hearings.
The fresh round of notices has added to concerns among voters and increased the administrative workload. Many recipients of earlier notices are still in the process of submitting required documents.
To streamline the process, the District Election Department has deployed 2,451 additional personnel to support Booth Level Officers (BLOs). The State Election Commission has also extended the deadline for filing claims and objections under the SIR by one month.
Deputy District Election Officer Siddhartha stated that hearings on previously issued notices are progressing swiftly and assured that new cases will also be resolved within the stipulated timeframe. He emphasized that once applicants present valid documents during hearings, necessary corrections will be made and eligible names will be included in the electoral roll.
