Rahul Gandhi files statement in Sultanpur Court; Next hearing on 9 March

Rahul Gandhi last appeared in the case on 26 July 2024. Since then, he has been absent on the hearing dates. When he failed to appear on 19 January, the court ordered him to appear in person on 20 February.

Sultanpur: Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, appeared before the MP-MLA Court in Sultanpur on Friday and recorded his statement in a defamation case. The court has scheduled the next hearing for 9 March. A large crowd of supporters gathered in the court premises during the hearing.

Rahul Gandhi filed his statement in the Sultanpur MP-MLA Court in connection with his objectionable remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He declared his innocence, calling the allegations against him baseless. Rahul termed the entire matter a political conspiracy. He remained in court for approximately 20 minutes. The court has set 9 March as the next date for presenting evidence in the case.

Rahul Gandhi is accused of making derogatory remarks against Union Minister Amit Shah during a press conference in Karnataka. Vijay Mishra, former president of the District Cooperative Bank and a BJP leader, filed a civil defamation case against him. The hearing is ongoing.

Rahul Gandhi last appeared in the case on 26 July 2024. Since then, he has been absent on the hearing dates. When he failed to appear on 19 January, the court ordered him to appear in person on 20 February.

Keeping in view of the large crowd in the court premises, tight security was in place, both inside and outside the courtroom. Security personnel had a tough time controlling the crowd. Extra vigilance was exercised to maintain law and order.

Rahul Visited Ramchet Mochi
After leaving the court, Rahul visited Ramchet Mochi's shop and met his family. Rahul held the cobbler's granddaughter, Shraddha, in his arms. Seeing the injury on her leg, he asked what happened. The family explained that the injury wasn't healing. Rahul then spoke with UP Congress President Ajay Rai about the girl's treatment.

Ramchet Mochi had died of cancer three months earlier. A year and a half earlier, Rahul Gandhi had stitched shoes at his shop. Later, he even sent Ramchet a sewing machine.
