Mathura: At least four people lost their lives and more than 20 passengers were injured after a Volvo bus crashed into a trailer truck on the Yamuna Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura district early Tuesday morning.

The accident took place around 4 am between milestones 112 and 113 near the Raya police station area. The bus, operated by Gola Bus Service, was carrying nearly 65 passengers when it hit the trailer from behind.

The impact of the collision was severe, leaving the front section of the bus badly damaged and creating panic among passengers. Four people died at the spot, while several others suffered serious injuries.

Police And Rescue Teams Reach Accident Site

After receiving information about the crash, police officials, including the Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural), the Mahavan Circle Officer and the Raya Police Station team, reached the location with emergency personnel.

Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Fire Service also joined the rescue operation. Passengers trapped inside the damaged bus were pulled out and shifted by ambulances to Mathura District Hospital for medical care.

Authorities said some injured passengers remained in critical condition and were receiving treatment.

Overspeeding Suspected As Preliminary Cause

Mathura SP (Rural) Suresh Chandra Rawat said the trailer was travelling in the third lane when the Volvo bus collided with it. According to the initial investigation, overspeeding by the bus may have contributed to the crash.

A special green corridor was created from the accident location to the hospital to ensure quick medical assistance for the injured. The district administration also monitored the rescue and treatment process.

Traffic Restored, Investigation Underway

Police officials confirmed that around 35 passengers escaped without major injuries or suffered minor injuries. They were later taken safely to their destinations.

Traffic movement on the Yamuna Expressway was briefly affected following the accident, but officials cleared the damaged vehicles and restored normal flow.

An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the collision. Authorities are also working to identify the deceased passengers and inform their families. Initial findings suggest driver error or excessive speed may have played a role, but the final conclusion will come after a detailed probe.
