BMW F 450 GS to launch in India
New Delhi: BMW Motorrad introduced the F 450 GS concept at the EICMA 2024 event in Italy. Later, it was displayed at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo in New Delhi during January. Since then, the bike has been spotted on Indian roads several times during test rides.
Recently, patent images of the production model have appeared online, suggesting that the BMW F 450 GS might launch in India within the next 2 to 3 months. TVS, as part of its partnership with BMW, plans to use the F 450 GS platform for its future models, including Norton motorcycles.
The production version of the F 450 GS looks almost the same as the concept model. Most parts like the radiator shrouds, front beak, sturdy fuel tank, and rear section are carried over. However, the exposed subframe from the concept version is not present in the production model. The overall design is inspired by the latest BMW R 1300 GS, which was released in India in January 2025.
The bike features a higher handlebar, split seat, mid-mounted foot pegs, and adjustable controls. BMW is aiming for a relaxed riding position, positioning the F 450 GS as an Adventure Touring (ADV) motorcycle for long trips, rather than a pure off-road bike, as seen from the rider triangle.
The F 450 GS has an all-LED lighting setup, including the headlamp, turn indicators, and tail-lamp cluster.
It also comes with a large colored TFT instrument console and Bluetooth connectivity. A rotary dial is likely to be included for operating the menu and other functions on the instrument cluster. In terms of safety, the bike includes switchable dual-channel ABS, traction control, and several ride modes.
The F 450 GS sits on a trellis frame with a bolt-on subframe. It comes with USD front forks and a monoshock rear absorber. It uses 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheels, which are expected to be fitted with tubeless tires. The bike is equipped with disc brakes at both the front and rear. It will be BMW’s entry-level motorcycle in the Indian market, replacing the now-discontinued G 310 GS.
Powering the F 450 GS is a 450cc liquid-cooled twin-cylinder petrol engine, producing 48 bhp and 45 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 6-speed transmission. The concept version had a curb weight of 175 kg, but the production model is expected to be slightly heavier due to added components. The BMW F 450 GS will compete directly with the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, Honda NX500, and CFMoto 450 MT.
