Kia Expands Hybrid Portfolio in India with Seltos, Sorento, Carnival
New Delhi: Amidst increasingly competitive competition in the auto sector, Kia has taken a major step to strengthen its foothold in the Indian market. The company has confirmed plans to launch three new hybrid cars in India by 2030. These models include the Kia Seltos Hybrid, Kia Sorento Hybrid, and Kia Carnival Hybrid.
According to reports, the Kia Seltos Hybrid (codenamed SP3i) is expected to be launched in the first half of 2027. The Sorento Hybrid will follow in the second half of 2027, followed by the Carnival Hybrid. The company aims to establish a strong presence in the hybrid segment.
Although Kia has not officially shared engine details, it is believed that the company may offer a hybrid setup with a 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder petrol engine. This is expected to deliver better mileage and lower carbon emissions.
Globally, the Sorento and Carnival Hybrids combine a 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor, producing robust power and torque.
The Kia Sorento and Kia Carnival Hybrids will retain the same design as their existing ICE versions, but will receive a "hybrid" badge and some software updates. The Sorento will be a new model in India, measuring approximately 4.8 meters in length. Upon launch, it could create new competition in the 7-seater SUV segment.
These hybrid cars from Kia will challenge the Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and upcoming new 7-seater models in the Indian market. Demand for hybrid cars is growing rapidly amid rising fuel prices and environmental concerns.
Kia has focused on hybrid as well as electric vehicles. The company has also announced the Kia Syros EV, which is expected to launch by mid-2026. This model is being developed with the mass market in mind.
This strategy by Kia clearly indicates that the company is going to make a big bet on electric and hybrid technology in the future. This will not only provide better mileage to customers but will also benefit the environment. Given the growing demand for hybrid vehicles in the Indian market, this move by Kia could prove to be a game changer.
