New Delhi: MG Motor is preparing to enter the premium ladder-frame SUV segment in India with the launch of the Majestor. Positioned above the Gloster, the new SUV signals the brand’s intent to compete in a category traditionally dominated by the established names. Bookings have already begun for a token amount of Rs 41,000, reflecting early buyer interest even before the official price announcement.

Expected pricing and market position

The Majestor is expected to be priced between Rs 40 lakh and Rs 45 lakh (ex-showroom). This places it directly in competition with other full-size SUVs in the segment. the Buyers in this category typically consider factors beyond upfront cost, including resale value, brand reliability and long-term maintenance expenses.

MG’s strategy appears to focus on offering the more features and technology at a similar price point, potentially appealing to buyers seeking a modern alternative without compromising on size and presence.

Engine, performance and off-road capability

Under the hood, the Majestor will feature a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine, producing almost 212.5 hp and 478.5 Nm of torque. Built on a body-on-frame platform, the SUV prioritizes strength and off-road ability over fuel efficiency, which is expected to be around 14 kmpl.

The SUV comes equipped with a 4X4 system and a Smart Command Centre designed to adapt to different driving conditions. Drivers can switch between Auto, 2H, 4H and 4L modes, while multiple terrain settings such as Snow, Sand and Rock enhance versatility across challenging surfaces.

Features and cabin experience

The Majestor focuses heavily on in-cabin technology and comfort. Expected highlights include a large touchscreen and infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof and advanced driver assistance features.

In this segment, buyers often prioritize comfort for long-distance travel. Seat quality, ride comfort and cabin space will play a critical role in shaping user experience more than outright performance figures.

What it means for buyers

The MG Majestor enters a competitive segment where reputation and reliability carry significant weight. Its success will depend on pricing strategy, after-sales support and the real-world performance. If executed well, it could offer a compelling blend of rugged capability and modern features.
