Noida: In a major development, police have arrested the main accused in the Noida labour protest violence case after an extensive multi-state search operation. The arrest marks a significant step forward in the investigation into the unrest that followed a workers’ protest in Noida.
The accused, identified as Aditya Anand, had been evading arrest since the incident and was carrying a reward of ₹1 lakh.
According to the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police, Anand was arrested from a railway station in Tiruchirappalli on April 18. The operation was carried out under the direction of Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh and supervised by senior officials.
Multiple teams from Noida Police, along with the Special Task Force, were involved in tracking him across different states. Officials said electronic surveillance and technical inputs played a crucial role in locating the accused.
Police have described Anand as the mastermind behind the violence that broke out during a labour protest in the Phase 2 police station area of Noida. Authorities allege that he played a key role in organising and inciting unrest among workers.
Investigators also stated that Anand is linked to an organisation called Bigul Mazdoor Dasta and had previously been involved in planning similar activities in other locations, including Manesar.
After the arrest of a co-accused, Anand reportedly altered his appearance by cutting his hair and beard and moved across states to avoid detection. Police teams conducted multiple raids before finally locating him in Tamil Nadu.
Several other individuals, including co-accused named in the case, are also under investigation for their alleged involvement in the incident.
