New Delhi: This week, the box office is full of big releases. On Thursday, August 14, two big films—Rajinikanth's 'Coolie' and Hrithik Roshan-Jr NTR's 'War 2'—were released in theaters, which made huge collections on the first day itself, leaving all other films behind. Apart from this, films like 'Son of Sardaar 2,' 'Saiyaara,' 'Mahavatara Narasimha,' and 'Kingdom' are also running, but their collections have weakened in front of the new releases.

'Coolie' breaks all records, earning a whopping 65 crores on the first day.

Rajinikanth's 'Coolie' was one of the most anticipated films of this year, and it left all other films behind by collecting Rs 65 crores on its opening day. Apart from Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna, Aamir Khan, Shruti Haasan, and Pooja Hegde have played important roles in it. The film's action-packed story and superstar cast attracted the audience, making it the biggest Indian opening film of 2024.

'War 2' also won, collecting52.50 crores on the first day.

Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR starrer film 'War 2' has also made a splash at the box office. This is the sixth film of the YRF Universe, also starring Kiara Advani in the lead role. The film earned Rs 52.50 crore on its opening day, which is a great start. This film, full of action and style, was well liked by the audience, and its collection is expected to increase further in the next few days.

Old films got a setback; earnings of 'Son of Sardar 2' and 'Saiyaara' fell.

While new films made a splash, the already running films had to bear the brunt of it.

'Son of Sardaar 2' (released on August 1) earned a mere Rs 10 lakh on its second Thursday, a huge drop.

'Saiyaaraa' (Mohit Suri's musical love story) earned Rs 25 lakh on its fourth Thursday, taking its total collection to Rs 322.85 crore in 28 days.

'Mahavatara Narasimha' (Ashwin Kumar's animated mythological film) earned Rs 2.70 crore on its 21st day, taking its total collection to Rs 188.45 crore.

Conclusion: "New releases rule the box office."

This week, 'Coolie' and 'War 2' dominated the box office, while the collections of old releases saw a huge drop. It will be interesting to see in the next few days if 'Coolie' is able to continue its record-breaking trend or 'War 2' gives it tough competition with its action-packed performance. At the same time, films like 'Mahavatara Narasimha' are earning well despite their low budget, which is a positive sign for Indian cinema.
