Azam Khan acquitted in hate speech case; Remains in jail in another case

This hate speech case had been ongoing in court for a long time. It dates back to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, when Azam Khan was contesting from the Rampur from the Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party alliance.

MP-MLA court acquits Azam Khan in hate speech case

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) senior leader and former Minister Mohammad Azam Khan has been acquitted in an inflammatory speech case. The special MP-MLA court (Magistrate Trial) in Rampur acquitted Azam Khan on Friday. This is a big relief for Azam Khan.

However, Azam Khan will continue to remain in jail as he is serving a seven-year term in a separate case related to his son Abdullah Azam’s two PAN card matter.

Azam Khan has been imprisoned in Rampur jail since 17 November 2025. He was sentenced to seven years in another case by the MP-MLA court. Most of the dozens of cases filed against Azam Khan are still pending in different courts.

This hate speech casea had been ongoing in court for a long time. It dates back to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, when Azam Khan was contesting from the Rampur from the Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party alliance. A case was registered against him for a speech he delivered while addressing party workers at the SP office during the election campaign.
