CBI Nabs Defence Ministry Officer in Major Bribery Scandal, Cash Recovered from Multiple Locations

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on December 20, 2025, arrested Lt. Col. Deepak Kumar Sharma, Deputy Planning Officer in the Department of Defence Productions, Ministry of Defence, along with a private individual Vinod Kumar, in a high-profile bribery case.

Allegations of Criminal Conspiracy and Corruption

The case was registered on December 19 based on reliable source information. The CBI alleged that Lt. Col. Sharma was habitually involved in corrupt practices and criminal conspiracy with representatives of private companies engaged in defence manufacturing and exports, in return for undue favours.

Role of Private Firms and Middlemen

According to the agency, a Dubai-based company was involved in the conspiracy. Its India operations were allegedly handled by Rajiv Yadav and Ravjit Singh, who were in constant contact with Lt. Col. Sharma to secure illegal benefits from government departments. Vinod Kumar allegedly acted as a conduit and delivered a bribe of ₹3 lakh on December 18, 2025.

Searches Across Multiple States

The CBI conducted extensive searches in Delhi, Sri Ganganagar, Bengaluru, Jammu, and other locations. During the search at Lt. Col. Sharma’s residence in Delhi, officials recovered the bribe amount of ₹3 lakh along with ₹2.23 lakh in cash. Additionally, ₹10 lakh in cash was seized from a premises linked to the accused in Sri Ganganagar.

Court Proceedings and Ongoing Probe

Both accused were produced before the court on Saturday and have been sent to police custody remand till December 23, 2025. Searches at the official premises of Lt. Col. Sharma in New Delhi are still underway, and further investigation is in progress.
