The hunt for illegal cough syrup kingpin Shubham Jaiswal Intensifies
Lucknow: A major development has emerged in Uttar Pradesh’s fight against illegal narcotics, particularly the fake codeine cough syrup trade. The Uttar Pradesh Police have taken strong action against Shubham Jaiswal, identified as the mastermind behind a large fake and banned codeine cough syrup racket. Jaiswal, who has been absconding for some time, is believed to be operating from Dubai.
In a significant step aimed at tightening the noose around the accused, authorities have cancelled Shubham Jaiswal’s passport on the recommendation of the Uttar Pradesh Police. With his passport revoked, his ability to legally stay abroad—especially in Dubai—has been severely restricted. Officials say this move is crucial in paving the way for his return to India to face trial.
Investigations have revealed that Jaiswal was allegedly managing the illegal codeine cough syrup network remotely from Dubai. From there, he coordinated the manufacturing, funding, and distribution of fake and prohibited cough syrups across Uttar Pradesh and several other states. The racket reportedly generated crores of rupees and played a dangerous role in pushing young people toward substance abuse.
The Mastermind of the Cough Syrup Scandal
The Uttar Pradesh Police are now preparing to issue a Red Corner Notice against Jaiswal through Interpol. Once issued, this international alert will enable law enforcement agencies across multiple countries to locate, detain, and facilitate his extradition to India. Senior officials have indicated that formal procedures are already underway and the process will be expedited.
Before reaching the mastermind, the police had already arrested several individuals linked to the network. Large consignments of fake codeine cough syrup were seized from different districts. During interrogation, Shubham Jaiswal’s name repeatedly surfaced, leading investigators to identify him as the key operator controlling finances and supply chains.
