According to Inspector Shamsher Singh, station house officer of City Ballabgarh police station, the attack took place between 5 pm and 5.30 pm while the girl was returning from a private library. “The suspect had known the victim for about a year, as he also visited the same library to study. However, she had stopped speaking to him about two weeks ago, which appears to have angered him,” Singh said.
Police said CCTV footage shows the suspect lying in wait outside the library before opening fire. He allegedly tried to shoot her in the head but missed, hitting her in the forearm and shoulder instead.
After the shooting, the accused reportedly threw his country-made pistol at the scene and fled on a motorcycle. Police later recovered the weapon. Multiple teams have been deployed to trace and arrest the suspect.
Based on the victim’s statement, a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to attempted murder. The investigation is ongoing, with police actively searching for the accused.
Authorities have urged anyone with information or additional CCTV footage of the area to come forward to assist in the investigation. Inspector Singh emphasized the need for community support in tracking down the suspect and preventing similar incidents.
The incident has sparked concern among local residents and parents, highlighting issues of safety near educational institutions and public spaces in Faridabad.
