Robert Vadra accused of illegal earnings of 58 crores
New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has claimed in the chargesheet filed against Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi's husband Robert Vadra that he earned Rs 58 crore from crime. This amount came through two companies. ED says that Vadra used this money to buy properties, invest and repay the debts of his companies.
According to ED, out of the alleged Rs 58 crore, Rs 5 crore came through Blue Breeze Trading Private Limited (BBTPL) and Rs 53 crore through Sky Light Hospitality Private Limited (SLHPL). Both the companies are said to be linked to Vadra's business network. The investigating agency said that this amount was generated from a schedule crime, that is, from a source that has already been declared a crime.
ED's claim on the use of money
The chargesheet states that Vadra used this money in many ways. These include activities such as purchase of real estate, investment in different sectors, giving loans to companies and paying dues of group companies. ED says that all these activities were allegedly done from illegal earnings, which is considered a crime under money laundering.
How did ED gather evidence in the investigation
According to officials, during the investigation, this financial flow was tracked on the basis of bank transactions, company records and witness statements. ED also said that the companies through which the money came were operated by Vadra's close associates. The agency says that these channels were used to give legal form to the money.
Further legal process
ED has filed a charge sheet in the court, and now it will be heard. If the court frames charges, Vadra may face punishment under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). At present, Vadra has not given any detailed response publicly on these allegations.
