New Delhi: The Delhi government on Thursday announced financial assistance for victims of the deadly Malviya Nagar hotel fire, offering an ex-gratia compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives and Rs 5 lakh to people seriously injured in the incident.

The announcement was made by the Chief Minister’s Office after Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited Max Hospital in Saket to meet the injured victims and assess the treatment arrangements.

During her visit, the Chief Minister interacted with patients and their relatives and directed officials to ensure all possible support is provided to the affected families.

Government Assures Medical and Logistical Support

According to the Delhi government, the medical expenses of the injured will also be coordinated with hospitals to ensure uninterrupted treatment.

Authorities are additionally making arrangements to transport the bodies of deceased victims to their native places. The government stated that it stands with every affected family and expressed condolences to those who lost their loved ones in the tragedy.

Investigation Reveals Possible Safety Lapses

The compensation announcement comes as the investigation into the fire continues to uncover possible safety violations and lapses at the hotel property.

Sources involved in the probe said investigators found that the rooftop exit of the hotel was reportedly closed during the blaze, which may have blocked a critical escape route for guests trapped inside the building.

Delhi Police has formed 10 investigation teams to examine various aspects of the incident. Five of these teams are specifically searching for absconding hotel manager Jai Mishra. Investigators are also trying to locate a key eyewitness whose statement could help establish the exact sequence of events during the fire.

During questioning, hotel owner Lovekesh Bajaj reportedly informed investigators that he is linked to three hospitality properties — Lemon Green, Micasa, and Flourish Stay. Police are now examining ownership structures and operational details connected to the establishments.

The fire claimed several lives, including foreign nationals staying at the hotel. Police have identified nine of the 12 foreign victims and shared their details with the Ministry of External Affairs for repatriation procedures.

Meanwhile, post-mortem examinations are underway at AIIMS. Preliminary findings suggest that many victims may have died due to smoke inhalation and suffocation, though the exact cause will be confirmed after forensic analysis.
