California: Seven lawsuits have been filed against Open AI, the company behind ChatGPT, for inciting suicide. The lawsuits were filed Thursday in California by the Social Media Victim Law Center and Tech Justice Law Project on behalf of six adults and one juvenile.

The lawsuits, filed in California State Court, allege that the technology harmed even those with healthy mental health. One lawsuit alleges that 17-year-old Amaury Lacey began using ChatGPT for help, but instead of helping, it led him to his death.

Amaury, who became depressed due to ChatGPT addiction, was taught how to tie a noose and encouraged to test how long he could survive without breathing. Similarly, the technology caused 48-year-old Canadian Alan Brooks to become delusional and caused mental and emotional harm to Brooks.

The parents of 16-year-old Adam Ren filed a lawsuit in August against ChatGPT and Open AI CEO Sam Altman, alleging that ChatGPT had pushed their child to death. Chief Advocacy Officer Daniel Weiss said that tech companies are compromising security standards in their rush to promote their products, leading to incidents like this.
