Jammu: A suspect was apprehended after a firing incident was reported during a private function attended by National Conference president Farooq Abdullah and Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary in Jammu.

Officials said the incident occurred when the two leaders were leaving the venue after attending the function. It was not immediately clear whether the firing was aimed at the VVIPs.

 

The accused, identified as Kamal Singh Jamwal, was quickly overpowered by security personnel present at the venue and taken into custody.

Senior police officers rushed to the spot soon after the incident and an investigation has been launched to ascertain the circumstances and motive behind the firing.

In a brief statement, police said an incident of firing was reported at the function where Farooq Abdullah and Surinder Choudhary were present, adding that one person has been arrested and further details are awaited.
