Lokesh Kanagaraj clarified—'Coolie' is a standalone film

Even before the release of the film, director Lokesh Kanagaraj had made it clear by sharing an emotional post on social media that 'Coolie' is not a part of his cinematic universe (which includes 'Kaithi,' 'Vikram,' and 'Leo'). He said that this film is a standalone project, which has been made especially for Rajinikanth. But the climax of the film is such that the audience feels that its story can continue further.

The climax increased speculation of sequel

In the last part of the film, Aamir Khan's character, 'Daha,' meets Rajinikanth's 'Dev' and asks him for help in taking revenge. However, it is not revealed from whom Daha wants to take revenge. Apart from this, Dev answers him in a funny dialogue—"Maybe I will come abroad and find you." This open-ended climax is making the audience think that maybe 'Coolie 2' has been planned.

Music director Anirudh also gave hope for a sequel

During an event in Mumbai, the film's music director, Anirudh Ravichander, said that he hopes 'Coolie 2' will be made. He described his work with the film as a "magical experience," which increased the excitement of the fans further.
